The Shindog Blog

By Sicle! Bi Sicle! I love to ride my bi si cooooool! 3.11.08

Well the last entrys blog photos have been updated (go check out that ute a cycle before you forget .. ur life just wont be the same if you haven't seen one!) .....and whilst i am in the middle of unpacking i managed to squeeze out a blog entry today! It's dedicated to the beijingers and there bicycle's!!! This the 'subway' bike park. Whilst its really just a train out here its still referred to as the subway. That concrete pillar there is holding it up!!! Yes my cooler than school electric bike is parked right there under who knows how many tonne of metal and steel!!!

Along with the other several hundred bikes you pay 0.5 Kuai for the privelige of parking your bike here for a day. Theres a guard in that little blue house there, him and his family setup a round the clock watch ... however an overnight park will cost you an extra 1 kuai! so thats about 10 cents per day or so. Why is everyone parking here? Well they ride to the subway then park their bikes then hop on the subway to work and back ... get the idea?

all the riders park in the appropiate place ... however ...
some will just park outside the entrance!!! but beware!!! no one gonna pickup your bike should the 'domino effect' kick in ... or maybe the guard secretly started this one up to punish those 0.5 quai fare skippers! cheap skates
Luckily this domino run didnt go to far ... i have been pretty embarrassed trying to pick my bike out .... they are packed in tight and its pretty easy to knock a neighbouring bike over ... look out ... its a slopppy laowei! (old foreigner!)

ok this is one i was going to blog last week but never got around to it ... in the middle of that pic there is the electricity smart card. You can go to your local macdonalds ... they have a recharge machine ... you then chuck this machine into your meter and it transfers the credit .. very tricky! hmmm codes = electricity ... crack the code ... free electricity!!! now theres a hacking project! hehehehe...

on a side note there was an article in the china daily about the continuance of car restrictions. Beijing continues to have a reduced car restrction scheme. You car will be banned once a week from the roads. The interesting thing with the car restrictions is a lot of people are just buying extra cars to get around it ... and for the wealthy it doesnt really affect them anyway ... they just swap between the TT, the A6 and the R8 ... so how effective is it really in reducing traffic? who knows! traffic in beijing is ... hen yo yi sede ( very interesting!) I'll go to work blogging up some typical traffic situations soon!

ok this is the bomb arrester thingi (as promised!)... theres one found in nearly every subway station ... this ones got a dust cover on it ... they look more impressive without there clothes on :) it's also chained to the pillar ... we wouldnt want anyone making off with out bomb explosion chamber! I guess there not expecting to need access to it in a hurry anymore`...

Shenme Dongxi!!!

"every day in china you see something (shenme dongxi) you don't see every day" [one billion customers; auth : James Mcgregor ..lessons from the frontlines of doing busines in china]. This little section is dedicated to that weird or strange thing which inadvertently you see everyday in china .. so to prove a point i'll see if i can find one 'mai tian do' (every day).

Doreamon Hua! (Flower) 03.11.08

Today's shenme donxi is a bunch of doraeomon's!!! I was visiting the local KFC toilet .. yes whilst our piping was out of action that was the nearest 'public' convenience. :) I decided to stop off for a coffee .... and a young chinese girl had just received these as a gift. Its a bunch of little 'doraemon's. He's a cute little cat that features in cartoons over here ... he is afraid of mice because when he was young they ate his ears. Thats why he has no ears. The girl had a tear running down her cheek. It was an emotional moment for her receiving such a thoughtful gift from her bf! So i stormed over 'keyi pile jiao pian ma? (can i take a photo ...) ..' nar keyi my jerge' ... (where can i buy these?) ... laopo loves this little guy too .. so of course i could bring a similar emotional moment ... where else would you get such a thing ... taobao! you can buy anything on taobao ..... including pirate dvd's ! hahaha an of course on my way back i had to show flower guy his new market! get into em .. doraeomon flowers!!! there gonna be everywhere!!!
