Well xmas is not 'officially' recognised over here ... i think there is still no public holiday ... but any good business knows a marketing campaign of the century when they see one! Do the shops celebrate xmas? You bet they do ... the decorations are rolling out and it isn't even december yet ... i guess its quite nice they can have a white xmas ... just the way it was intended ... but that little santas helper up there on the poster definitely ain't dressed for a chilly BJ chrissy ... but hey nice boots ... of course they had to be red! ... no wonder china loves a good xmas! ;) ... but nothing like a good ol xmas spending spree to chase away a financial crisii or 2! This is one of the many 'governemnet' department stores found in wangfujing st.

Shenme Dongxi!!!

This little section is dedicated to that weird or strange thing which inadvertently you see everyday in china .. so to prove a point i'll see if i can find one 'mai tian do' (every day).Yo Mai Yo PiJiu Ma? ...anyone for a beer? (the transliteration of that is .. "have no have beer?") "Just enjoy it" they proclaim ... all 360 Ml 's full!. Beer is readily available in the Middle Country (China's name in chinese literally means 'middle land') ... I bought this at the local supermarket ... you can buy beer in your local 711 or 'quickie' mart ! You can get as much as you can drink in a place called 'big pizza' along with pizza and other consumables for about 40 rmb READ that again AS MUCH BEER AS YOU CAN DRINK... for about 8 bucks! Your average beer costs about 3 Quai from a quickie mart or around 10 - 15 from a bar. Imported brand beers like corona can be purchased for around 8 Quai (1.80!AUD) or anywhere up to 50 rmb in a fancy hotel! |

I'm not sure about their marketing line "G&Her beer is warmly welcomed for it's fresh, soft taste and high quality by more and more consumers" ... don't they know that only "REAL MEN" drink beer ... mate! .... but the real reason it made "shenmedongxi" is the beer is in a PET Bottle ... kinda looks like a bottle of apple juice! I coulda swear that said ginger beer laopo :) ! |

| ok eyes of my 'zhonguo nu ni (laopo calls it "chinese milk" aka soy milk) ... they dont tend to drink much cow juice over here ... laopo says she can smell the cow. |
