Read the writing on the ... floor! 31.10.08

We are all a little fascinated with chinese characters... what do all the 'little pictures' mean!?!... the chinese spend their first 10 years of schooling learning them. Theres simplified and classic characters and the chinese are fascinated by them too... particulary the ancient ones.

In the more artsier east side i've seen this sort of thing before but never west side bj ... its a dude writing chinese calligraphy on the pavement ... vandal! ...graphiti! .. gay jin cha da yi ge dian hwa!! (call the cops! or the transliteration ..give police make one phone/call ) .. oh no it's just one huge water brush! how quaint.

I was treated to this display for possibly the last time from liuliqiao..as fruit park is calling ... this guy however was working from a book .. but its nice to see some culture in action! The guys ive seen east side writing with their enormous water brushes do it freestyle ... i think the characters they are writing aren't too common and often its some form of famous ancient poetry or confucius sayings!

Well the hours are ticking and my time here in liuliqiao is coming to an end... i considered trying to convince laopo to let me rent the uber small room here as an office ... but since there will probably be 4 or 5 girls occupying this place after i'm gone i doubt that'd be approved ;) So the reno works are finished but the jack hammering goes on in the next building now ... and it's very audible! It's probably not what you'd expect after a makeover but it's definitely much more useable now .. i'm sure the new tenants will put the mutlipurpose wetroom to work! I'd fear being here for those morning rush hour bathroom knocks ... thats the kind of putonghwa you dont get taught in a text book ;)
[insert KITCHEN MAKEOVER PIC pic here ... whilst i had my cam today i forgot the usb memory card reader .... doh ... check back soon for the pic! ]
This is the bike keeper, he sits there all day and lives inside that building there watching over the bikes. He oopens up the doors at 6am and closes them at 10pm! We would pay 10 kuai a month to park the electric bike in there ... closely guarded under his watchful eye. He's a nice old guy .. always giving me the heads up when my tyres are in need of air! I'll miss him and all the other characters from 6Mile Bridge!
OK so it's not all play over here ... whilst i do maitian the website and whatnot I have been busy investigating other avenues of business and attended many many exhibitions and trade shows. How about this one for the workshop guys ... its an automated wire stripper! Now that could do someone out of a job! It will cut and strip wires to an exact length!!!

I've been in negotiation and visited various factories in china to prepare ourselves for the global gametronix takeover ... were gonna need a bunch of dudes/dudettes who can solder ... and a assembly line to go with it!!! There ready and waiting now we just need some products!
but none of this shoddy work ... we've got GTX standards to live up to! And here i am watching over there shoulders!

Shenme Dongxi!!!

"every day in china you see something (shenme dongxi) you don't see every day" [one billion customers; auth : i cant remember ... will find out tomorrow] . This little section is dedicated to that weird or strange thing which inadvertently you see everyday in china .. so to prove a point i'll see if i can find one 'mai tian do' (every day).

Meet the ute-a-cycle!!! 30.10.08

Today's shenme donxi is a motor cycle conversion job! You see all sorts or weird vehicles in china, motor cycles with make shift covers .. three wheeled trucks ...all sorts of electric bikes with custom addons ......there will definitely be few of these featuring in upcoming 'shenme dongxi's".

So they have take a standard motor cycle and turned it into a trike style thing and added a nice utility tray on the back. Great for carting around bags of rice and what not! ... of course is had to be a nice red one!

meet the ute a cycle
Ok so i forgot to come good on my bomb arrester pic ... so heres one other promise i can cross off my list ... minature pigs!!! Apparently they are full grown ... they are nearly 2 years old and they are being sold here in the local neighbourhood as pets! You too can be the proud owner for the reasonable sum of 500 kuai! (about $100 AUD). No we can't have one laopo .... theres just not enough bacon to go round!
